Progression Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace
This award is for students who are not yet ready to undertake an NVQ and provides a worthwhile qualification and raises the student’s awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace or place of learning.
The Progression award provides some of the knowledge and understanding towards the level 3 Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
For students who may not wish to continue towards the level 3 NVQ award this qualification ensures students are adopting the correct practice and procedures in Health and Safety relating to their work.
This award is mainly assessed within the workplace and a portfolio of evidence compiled by the student but for 1 of the mandatory units this is multiple choice and can be undertaken by e-volve on line tests.
To achieve the award students need to complete all 9 mandatory units and plus the written optional multiple choice test.
Units included in the award:
• Comply with Health and Safety Law to ensure the safety of self and others
• Maintain safe working conditions and safe working systems
• Understand how to control and monitor risk in the workplace
• Maintain positive attitudes towards safety at work
• Use personal protective equipment
• Understand how to deal with accidents
• Understand how to prevent risks from fire
• Understand how to prevent risks from chemicals
• Manual handling techniques
• Multiple choice unit – Safe working practices
